The Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek, is a thrilling adventure in the heart of the Annapurna region of Nepal. This trek is ideal for those who want to reach the Annapurna Base Camp in a short time frame. The journey begins in Kathmandu, with a half-day of sightseeing and trek preparation. The next day, you have the option to either drive or fly to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region and the second largest city in Nepal. Pokhara is located at the base of the Annapurna mountain range, home to Annapurna I, which stands at 8091 meters, making it the 10th highest mountain in the world.

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers a stunning variety of landscapes and experiences, from lush forests and terraced fields to traditional villages and high alpine environments. You’ll be rewarded with close-up views of some of the most magnificent peaks in the Himalayas, including Mt. Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. The trek is characterized by its magnificent mountain scenery, relaxing hot springs, lush forests, rivers, and picturesque villages.

The best seasons for this trek are Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May). The trek begins and ends in Pokhara, passing through a variety of landscapes and villages including Ghandruk, Chomrong, Himalaya, Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Bamboo, and Landruk.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you have the option to explore the vibrant streets of Thamel, a popular tourist area filled with shops, restaurants, and cultural sites. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring typical Nepali cuisine and a cultural program.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and trek Preparation

AAfter breakfast, visit UNESCO World Heritage sites including Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is home to ancient palaces, courtyards, and temples that were once the seat of the Malla kings. Swayambhunath Stupa, one of the oldest and most revered Buddhist monuments in Nepal, offers panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. In the afternoon, attend a briefing and discussion about the upcoming trek.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m) 6hrs

After an early breakfast, depart from Kathmandu and drive to Pokhara along the Prithvi Highway, a journey of approximately six hours. The drive offers stunning views of the countryside, including lush green hills, terraced fields, rivers, and traditional villages. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you can relax and explore the lakeside area, including Phewa Lake and the local market.

Day 04: Pokhara To Ghandruk (1940m) via Birethati (1025m) 1.5hrs drive and 5-6hrs hiking

In the morning, drive from Pokhara to Birethati, a journey of about 1.5 hours along the Pokhara-Baglung Highway. From Birethati, start trekking to Ghandruk. The trail follows the Modi Khola river, crosses a metal bridge, and passes through the ACAP check post. The stone-paved path leads you uphill to Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village known for its traditional stone houses and spectacular sunset views over the Annapurna ranges.

Day 05: Ghandruk to Chomrong (2170m) 5hrs

Today’s trek offers close-up views of Annapurna South (7219m), Hiunchuli (6441m), and Machhapuchhre (6993m). From Ghandruk, follow the trail to Kimrong, a steep descent, and then climb steeply to Taulung. The final part of the day’s trek is a relatively easy walk to Chomrong, a village situated at the base of the Hiunchuli peak.

Day 06: Chomrong to Himalaya (2920m) 4-5hrs

From Chomrong, the trail descends to the Chomrong Khola, crosses a suspension bridge, and ascends through terraced fields and rhododendron forests to reach the village of Sinwa. Continue through the forest to Khuldighar, passing through Bamboo and Dovan before arriving at Himalaya village. This part of the trek is characterized by dense forests and diverse landscapes.

Day 07: Himalaya to Machapuchhere Base Camp (3700m). 4-5hrs

Today’s trek takes you through dense forests, past the Hinku Cave and Deurali, before reaching the Machhapuchhre Base Camp. The trail includes avalanche-prone areas, so it’s essential to check conditions with the ACAP post staff. As you ascend, you’ll notice the vegetation thinning and the landscape opening up to reveal broad grassy slopes and majestic mountain views. The Machhapuchhre Base Camp offers stunning views of Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Gandharvachuli, and the Annapurna range.

Day 08: Machhapuchre Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp & explore the ABC (4130m) 3-4hrs

The trek from MBC to ABC is a relatively short ascent of about 2-3 hours. As you enter the Annapurna Sanctuary, the path widens, and you’ll be greeted by sensational views of the south face of Annapurna. The sanctuary offers a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding peaks. Spend the day exploring the glacier and the base camp area, taking in the mesmerizing views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Hiunchuli, and other peaks.

Day 09: ABC to Bamboo (2310m) 5-6hrs

After enjoying the sunrise and spectacular views at Annapurna Base Camp, begin your descent to Bamboo. Retracing your steps downhill, you’ll pass through the same beautiful landscapes you encountered on the way up. The descent is easier and faster, allowing you to enjoy the views and the pleasant atmosphere.

Day 10: Bamboo to Landruk (1565m) 5-6hrs

Continue your descent, passing through Sinuwa and Taulung, before reaching the large Gurung village of Landruk. The trail takes you through dense forests, along the Modi Khola, and across several small villages. Landruk offers a glimpse into the traditional Gurung way of life and culture.

Day 11: Landruk –Pothana (2890m)- Dhampus (650m) – Phedi (1130m) & drive to Pokhara: 45min

From Landruk, the trail climbs gradually to Pothana, offering fine views of Mt. Fishtail and the Annapurna range. Continue descending to Dhampus, a charming village known for its terraced fields and traditional houses. The final descent takes you to Phedi, from where you’ll drive back to Pokhara.

Day 12: Drive Pokhara (910m) to Kathmandu (1310m) 6-7hrs

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu, a journey of approximately six to seven hours. The scenic drive offers beautiful views of the countryside, including hills, rivers, villages, and terraced fields. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll have free time to explore the city or do some last-minute shopping.

Day 13: Final departure

Today is your last day in Nepal. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to explore more of Kathmandu or simply relax.

We will transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport in time for your departure flight, ensuring you leave with wonderful memories of your Annapurna adventure.
