Private Transport & FlightTrip Overview
Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, stands tall on the summit of Chukung Glacier at an altitude of 6,189m. This peak lies in the middle of the Ama Dablam and Mt. Lhotse. Stretching out the southern ridge of Lhotse Shar, Island Peak Mountain resembles an island in the sea of ice, with a bit of col dividing it. Thus, an adventure, Eric Shipton, in 1953, named this peak Island Peak. Also, the southwest part of this peak was used as a training center by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa during their Everest expedition in 1953.
The peak awes you with its breathtaking panoramic beauty and, most importantly, provides a classic perspective for a close-up look at Mount Everest. It is the most famous expedition for physically fit climbers who need more adventures. This route might be physically challenging, but you need not to be a pro climber. So, this expedition is for everyone who wants to experience climbing the peak rather than going on a trek.
This expedition starts with a thrilling flight to Lukla, from where we will follow the classic route of the Everest Base Camp trek. Once we reach Dingboche, we head down towards Chukung and ascend towards the Island Peak Base Camp, from where the challenges begin until we reach the summit of Island Peak.
Trip Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, you can stroll around Thamel and the local streets of Kathmandu. Enjoy a welcome dinner with a typical Nepali cultural program in the evening.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing: UNESCO World Heritage Sites
After breakfast, our guide will take you to the Swayambhunath Temple. Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a revered and historic Buddhist stupa atop a hill in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley. It represents Buddhism and Hinduism. The sound of revolving prayer wheels, burning incense, and waving colorful prayer flags in the breeze will welcome you as you ascend the hill. When you reach the summit, you’ll be drawn to the enormous stupa with eyes painted in each cardinal direction. From the pinnacle of Syambhunath stupa, you will get to witness the stunning view of the Kathmandu Valley.
Spending a few hours exploring and discovering this stupa’s beauty, we drive to our next attraction of today, Kathmandu Durbar Square. The Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka, is an astonishing attraction with history, culture, and beautifully built architecture tucked away in the middle of Nepal’s capital city. It draws tourists from all over the world. As you enter, you can witness the Kumari Ghar (the Temple of the Living Goddess) standing in the middle of the square. Also, you can visit the 17th-century royal Palace that now functions as a museum. Travelers to Nepal should make time to view Kathmandu Durbar Square, as it is the most culturally and religiously diverse region in Nepal, and witness the monuments, art, architecture, culture, and many idols that showcase the talents of several artists and craftspeople spanning several centuries.
Later in the evening, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple on the northeastern side of Kathmandu, around 3 km east of the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Pashupatinath Temple, devoted to Lord Pashupatinath (Lord Shiva), is a destination for pilgrims and devotees. Lord Shiva, known as the god of change and destruction, is one of the main gods in Hinduism. The temple is a center of worship for followers of Lord Shiva, drawing pilgrims and visitors from all over the world and the local populace. You can witness the Sandhya Aarati, where oil lamps are lighted, and the pundits chant devotional songs. The soul-stirring music, the captivating glow of the lamps, and the rhythmic clap sound of devotees and visitors create a calm and contemplative ambiance.
After this, we will drop you off at your hotel, where you can have dinner and rest.
Overnight at Kathmandu.

Tengboche village is named after the oldest and most influential monastery, Tengboche Monastery. This monastery is believed to have a strong connection with the Rongbuk Monastery of Tibet. After having a decent breakfast in the chilling atmosphere, our sherpa guides will train you with climbing techniques like ice axes, crampons, etc.
Although no prerequisite training experience is needed for the Island Peak expedition, past climbing experiences will surely boost confidence and raise the odds of reaching the summit.

Day 11: Ascend to the summit of Island Peak (6,189m) and return to Chukung (4,735m)
Finally, the day came to reach our destination, the summit of the Island Peak. During the afternoon, a strong wind would make it difficult to reach the summit, so we would have an early breakfast and march towards it.
We will ascend through the rocky trail and reach the crampon point, from where we will pass the gully and climb towards the base of the peak. From this point, the climbing will be challenging as we have to ascend steeply to the top. From the base, we will use the ropes and head to the south ridge. Continuing climbing by following the rope, we will then reach the summit of the Island Peak.
Once we reach the summit, we will spend some moments there, experiencing the breathtaking view of peaks above 6000m, including Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Ama Dablam, Mera Peak, and Mt. Everest. The Khumbu Glacier region looks stunning, and each moment spent at the summit will be a lifetime memory.
Later, we will return from the summit before the high wind hits us and makes our way challenging. We will make our way back to Chukung.
