Gosaikunda Lake Trek is one of Nepal’s best and shortest treks. This week-long adventure allows one to witness breathtaking snow-capped peaks, immerse oneself in the Himalayas, and lie beside the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. The trail is not crowded; one can experience all this in a week.
Gosaikunda Lake, at an altitude of 4,380m from sea level, is located near other lakes such as Surya Kunda, Bhairav Kunda, and Saraswati Kunda. Gosaikunda is one of the holiest lakes for both Hindus and Buddhists. According to Hindu, once there was an event called Samundra Manthan, which was performed to extract the Immortality Nectar (Amrit). But before the Amrit, the poison gets released, affecting the surroundings. The event must continue, but the poison has affected it so much that it is halted. Seeing this, the Lord Shiva comes forward and drinks all the poison, which results in throat pain. To calm his pain, he leaves the place of the event and searches for cold water that could relieve him from the pain. He then reached the hill, hit it with the trident, and drank the water from the lake formed, named Gosaikunda.
Trekking to Gosaikunda Lake means entering Langtang National Park, where you will witness wildlife, waterfalls, and untamed forests and visit the holy Gosaikunda Lake. You will also enjoy breathtaking views of the Langtang Lirung (7246m), Yala Peak (5500m), Gangchhenpo (6388m), Mount Manaslu (8,153m), Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, and other snow-capped peaks.
Suppose your time of trek to this holy Gosaikunda Lake falls on August’s full moon, the time of Janai Purnima (a sacred day for Hindus). In that case, you can witness the crowd of devotees bathing and singing a bhajan (spiritual song) dedicated to Lord Shiva and Gauri. The sight of the celebration on the top of the hill is quite intriguing, making the Gosaikunda Lake more sacred and beautiful.
The professionals of Crisscross Nepal have designed this 8-day Gosaikunda Lake Trek so that you can acclimatize, witness the glory and beauty of the Himalayas, and enjoy each moment while fully exploring its cultural and spiritual side. Still, if you have an extra day to spare, go deeper into the Langtang National Park with our Langtang Gosaikunda Lake trek.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing: UNESCO World Heritage Sites
After breakfast, our guide will take you to the Swayambhunath Temple. Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a revered and historic Buddhist stupa atop a hill in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley. It represents Buddhism and Hinduism. The sound of revolving prayer wheels, burning incense, and waving colorful prayer flags in the breeze will welcome you as you ascend the hill. When you reach the summit, you’ll be drawn to the enormous stupa with eyes painted in each cardinal direction. From the pinnacle of Syambhunath stupa, you will get to witness the stunning view of the Kathmandu Valley.
