Trip Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, you can stroll around Thamel and the local streets of Kathmandu. Enjoy a welcome dinner with a typical Nepali cultural program in the evening.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing: UNESCO World Heritage Sites
After breakfast, our guide will take you to the Swayambhunath Temple. Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a revered and historic Buddhist stupa atop a hill in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley. It represents Buddhism and Hinduism. The sound of revolving prayer wheels, burning incense, and waving colorful prayer flags in the breeze will welcome you as you ascend the hill. When you reach the summit, you’ll be drawn to the enormous stupa with eyes painted in each cardinal direction. From the pinnacle of Syambhunath stupa, you will get to witness the stunning view of the Kathmandu Valley.
Spending a few hours exploring and discovering this stupa’s beauty, we drive to our next attraction of today, Kathmandu Durbar Square. The Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka, is an astonishing attraction with history, culture, and beautifully built architecture tucked away in the middle of Nepal’s capital city. It draws tourists from all over the world. As you enter, you can witness the Kumari Ghar (the Temple of the Living Goddess) standing in the middle of the square. Also, you can visit the 17th-century royal Palace that now functions as a museum. Travelers to Nepal should make time to view Kathmandu Durbar Square, as it is the most culturally and religiously diverse region in Nepal, and witness the monuments, art, architecture, culture, and many idols that showcase the talents of several artists and craftspeople spanning several centuries.
Later in the evening, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple on the northeastern side of Kathmandu, around 3 km east of the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Pashupatinath Temple, devoted to Lord Pashupatinath (Lord Shiva), is a destination for pilgrims and devotees. Lord Shiva, known as the god of change and destruction, is one of the main gods in Hinduism. The temple is a center of worship for followers of Lord Shiva, drawing pilgrims and visitors from all over the world and the local populace. You can witness the Sandhya Aarati, where oil lamps are lighted, and the pundits chant devotional songs. The soul-stirring music, the captivating glow of the lamps, and the rhythmic clap sound of devotees and visitors create a calm and contemplative ambiance.
After this, we will drop you off at your hotel, where you can have dinner and rest.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1460m)
After breakfast, we will drive towards Syabrubesi, a beautiful small village at the head of this marvelous trek to Langtang Valley.
This scenic journey through the ever-flowing Trishuli River will take 6-8 hours to reach Syabrubesi. It is also similar to Kyirong, a town bordering Tibet and Nepal. It is a few kilometers away and downhill from Dhunche, another settlement from where the travelers do the Gosaikundra trek, and is also a Rasuwa District’s headquarters. Following the river uphill to Dhunche, you may view the snow-capped peaks, including Manaslu, Annapurna I, Ganesh Himal, & more.
Once you reach Syabrubesi, you can rest or stroll around the village and explore the Tamang community. You can also buy something to take on the trip to this village. After dinner, your guide will brief you about the journey.
Overnight at Syabrubesi.
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,470m)
Today, our trekking journey starts when we leave the motors behind and start walking. After early breakfast, we will head north along the Langtang River. After a few hours of walking through the pine forest and small waterfalls, we will reach a settlement called Pairo, which has only two hotels. We will rest for a while and have some tea and snacks here. Then, we continue our journey, ascending and descending until we reach the Bamboo, where we will have lunch. During this hour of walking through the forest, you may witness wild animals like red pandas, monkeys, musk deer, and more.
Once we have finished lunch and rested for a while, we continue until we reach the suspension bridge. Continuing walking will take us to Rimche Danda, where we will rest for a few minutes and fill our bottles. You may also eat snacks from your bags if you feel starved.
Later, we will walk towards Lama Hotel, which is a short distance, but this short journey will feel quite long because of the tiredness and stiffness (if you are a beginner trekker). Lama Hotel is the first and most famous hotel where the trekkers land on their first day of trekking. People remember this place with the hotel’s name, which eventually became the name of the whole settlement. This settlement has multiple lodges now.
Overnight at Lama Hotel.
Day 05: Trek to Langtang Village (3430m)
After early breakfast, we will start our trek towards Langtang village. After walking for about an hour, you will reach Riverside, where you can find two teahouses with a lodge. If you do not want to stay at the Lama Hotel, Riverside is the next option. The way forward from Riverside will be a little challenging as you ascend to the top of the hill, pass through the rhododendron forest, and reach Ghodatabela. We could have lunch here if you feel hungry, but if you want to continue, we can.
From this Ghodatabela, your trail ahead will differ from your overall journey. You will now walk through yak pasturelands to witness the yak grazing. Also, the whole trail is now surrounded by giant rocky hills. You may find a few Tamang settlements filled with Buddhist prayer flags and chortens before you reach Langtang Village, a Tamang settlement that was sadly and badly affected by the 2015 Earthquake. It is now located slightly ahead of the devastating site. You will find multiple lodges here and view the farmlands, which grow foods like potatoes, barley, etc.
Overnight at Langtang Village.
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m)
Today, we will trek towards our final destination, Kyanjin Gompa. On the way, we will visit Nepal’s giant “mani” and “stone walls” with prayers written on them. You’ll cross many tiny streams with wooden bridges and over several mountains. Today’s journey is short, and a few steps ascending are not that challenging, but you should be aware that as you are trekking upwards to 3,870m, you might catch trouble on the way.
After a few hours of ascending and descending, you will reach Kyanjin Gompa, tucked away in the lap of Langtang Lirung and equipped with incredible facilities and amenities, including the Swiss bakery.
Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 07: Exploration Day at Kyanjin Gompa
Hiking to Tserko Ri (4984m) is challenging, and if you plan on going there, we should wake up early and have breakfast. Before sunrise, we should march towards Tserko Ri. But if you choose to go to Kyanjin Ri (Ri 1 and Ri 2), we can do this hike on our regular morning schedule. The hike to Kyanjin Ri is less challenging than Terko Ri, but whichever route you choose, you will be treated to a 360-degree view of frozen lakes, expansive valleys, and snow-capped mountains.
After spending some time on the top of the Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri, capturing moments and enjoying the spectacular view, we head back to our hotel. The rest of the day will be spent acclimatizing to and exploring Kyanjin Gompa’s attractions, such as the Yak cheese factory and Gompa.
Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 08: Trek back to Lama Hotel
This morning, we will take our time at Kyanjin Gompa and take in the breathtaking views of the massive Himalayas one more time before saying goodbye to this fabulous destination. After having a decent breakfast, we journey back to Lama Hotel.
We will reach Ghodatabela, have lunch, and rest for a while. Then, we will move forward to Lama Hotel. Once we get to the Lama Hotel, we will rest for the day and prepare ourselves for the journey to Gosaikunda.
Overnight at Lama Hotel.
Day 09: Trek to Thulo Syabru (2,210m)
Today, we will trek towards Thulo Syabru, a Tamang settlement. After having breakfast, we will trek towards Sybrubesi, but we will stop at Pairo, from where we ascend to Thulo Syabru. After lunch, we will continue our journey, passing the Government of Agriculture Office and reaching the Sing Goma, a Buddhist monastery known as Chandan Bari, at an altitude of 3,330m. Once we get there, we will rest, stroll around, and visit the Yak Cheese Factory.
Overnight at Shin Gompa.
Day 11: Trek to Gosainkunda (4380m)
Today’s trek will take us to our destination, Gosainkunda, at 4380m. First, we’ll ascend a hill to Cholonghati. We will next make a sharp ascent and cross Laurebinayak Pass (4610m). Then, we will ascend steeply until we reach the Chorten, where another hour of walking will take us uphill and allow us to witness the beautiful Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda. Later, we will reach Gosainkunda.
Gosaikunda is special to pilgrims who are both Buddhists and Hindus. It is believed that when the Hindu God, Lord Shiva, drank the poison, he created a lake to fill his thirst, later named Gosaikunda. During the full moon in August, numerous pilgrims gather here to pray and take a sacred bath.
Overnight at Gosaikunda.
Day 12: Trek to Ghopte (3440m)
From today, all our journeys will lead us to our home. Today, we will leave Gosaikunda and start our trek towards Laurebina La High Pass. As we get closer to the Laurebina La Pass, our walk along the northern coast becomes steeper. At 4,610 meters above sea level, this high pass is marked as a point to enter the Helambu area, paving a winding path across the Langtang range and taking us to Ghopte.
From Laurebina La Pass, we descend towards the High Camp (4240m). Continuing our journey through the rocky trail, we reach Phedi. From Phedi, we walk down towards the stream, pass the rugged hill, and reach Ghopte.
Overnight at Ghopte.
Day 13: Trek to Kutumsang (2540m)
We will have an early breakfast and start our trek towards Kutumsang. The journey will be challenging, as you must pass dense forest through rugged trails until you reach Tharepati. Tharepati is a stopping point from where one can witness the Dorje Lakpa Himal, Sishapanga, etc.
From Tharepati, there are two ways: one takes us to Melamchi Gau and the other to our destination, Kutumsang. Continuing the trail towards Kutumsang, we will reach Magin Goth, then Kuala Bhanjhyang, and descending from there, we will reach Kutumsang.
Overnight at Kutumsang.
