The Langtang Valley Trek is a 10-day adventure in the Himalayas, offering a more straightforward and quicker alternative to the famous Everest Base Camp trek and Annapurna Base Camp trek. This trek is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all, ensuring that you can fully immerse yourself in the stunning Langtang National Park without the physical demands of more challenging treks.
The Langtang Valley Trek offers a classic Nepalese alpine environment, a perfect blend of adventure and comfort. The Langtang National Park was established in 1971 as Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park, a testament to the region’s breathtakingly beautiful natural landscapes and the diverse flora and fauna found here.
The Langtang region is the residence of Tamangs and Sherpas. Tamangs are said to be the Tibetans’ ancestors, and their cultures, customs, and attire are similar. On the Langtang Valley Trek, you will see historic monasteries and stupas. One of the oldest monasteries in the Langtang area, Kyanjin Ri, is 4,773 meters high and features interesting paintings, antiques, and artwork.
In addition to an exhilarating adventure, the Langtang Valley trek is a cultural and spiritual excursion set against the backdrop of the Himalayas, including Langtang Lirung (7246m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and more. The professionals of Crisscross Nepal have designed this 10-day Langtang Valley Trek so that you can acclimatize, witness the glory and beauty of the Himalayas, and enjoy each moment while fully exploring its cultural and spiritual side.

Trip Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon, you can stroll around Thamel and the local streets of Kathmandu. Enjoy a welcome dinner with a typical Nepali cultural program in the evening.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing: UNESCO World Heritage Sites
After breakfast, our guide will take you to the Swayambhunath Temple. Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is a revered and historic Buddhist stupa atop a hill in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley. It represents Buddhism and Hinduism. The sound of revolving prayer wheels, burning incense, and waving colorful prayer flags in the breeze will welcome you as you ascend the hill. When you reach the summit, you’ll be drawn to the enormous stupa with eyes painted in each cardinal direction. From the pinnacle of Syambhunath stupa, you will get to witness the stunning view of the Kathmandu Valley.
Spending a few hours exploring and discovering this stupa’s beauty, we drive to our next attraction of today, Kathmandu Durbar Square. The Kathmandu Durbar Square, also known as Basantapur Durbar Square or Hanuman Dhoka, is an astonishing attraction with history, culture, and beautifully built architecture tucked away in the middle of Nepal’s capital city. It draws tourists from all over the world. As you enter, you can witness the Kumari Ghar (the Temple of the Living Goddess) standing in the middle of the square. Also, you can visit the 17th-century royal Palace that now functions as a museum. Travelers to Nepal should make time to view Kathmandu Durbar Square, as it is the most culturally and religiously diverse region in Nepal, and witness the monuments, art, architecture, culture, and many idols that showcase the talents of several artists and craftspeople spanning several centuries.
Later in the evening, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple on the northeastern side of Kathmandu, around 3 km east of the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Pashupatinath Temple, devoted to Lord Pashupatinath (Lord Shiva), is a destination for pilgrims and devotees. Lord Shiva, known as the god of change and destruction, is one of the main gods in Hinduism. The temple is a center of worship for followers of Lord Shiva, drawing pilgrims and visitors from all over the world and the local populace. You can witness the Sandhya Aarati, where oil lamps are lighted, and the pundits chant devotional songs. The soul-stirring music, the captivating glow of the lamps, and the rhythmic clap sound of devotees and visitors create a calm and contemplative ambiance.
After this, we will drop you off at your hotel, where you can have dinner and rest.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi (1460m)
After breakfast, we will drive towards Syabrubesi, a beautiful small village at the head of this marvelous trek to Langtang Valley.
This scenic journey through the ever-flowing Trishuli River will take 6-8 hours to reach Syabrubesi. It is also the same way to Kyirong, a border town between Tibet and Nepal. It is a few kilometers away and downhill from Dhunche, another settlement from where the travelers do the Gosaikundra trek, and is also a Rasuwa District’s headquarters. Following the river uphill to Dhunche, you may view the snow-capped peaks, including Manaslu, Annapurna I, Ganesh Himal, & more.
Once you reach Syabrubesi, you can rest or stroll around the village and explore the Tamang community. You can also buy something to take on the trip to this village. After dinner, your guide will brief you about the journey.
Overnight at Syabrubesi.
Day 04: Trek to Lama Hotel (2,470m)
Today, our trekking journey starts when we leave the motors behind and start walking. After early breakfast, we will head north along the Langtang River. After a few hours of walking through the pine forest and small waterfalls, we will reach a settlement called Pairo, which has only two hotels. Here, we will rest for a while and have some tea and snacks. Then, we continue our journey, ascending and descending until we reach the Bamboo, where we will have lunch. During this hour of walking through the forest, you may witness wild animals like red pandas, monkeys, musk deer, and more.
Once we have finished lunch and rested for a while, we continue until we reach the suspension bridge. Continuing walking will take us to Rimche Danda, where we will rest for a few minutes and fill our bottles. You may also eat snacks from your bags if you feel starved.
Later, we will walk towards Lama Hotel, which is a short distance, but this short journey will feel quite long because of the tiredness and stiffness (if you are a beginner trekker). Lama Hotel is the first and most famous hotel where the trekkers land on their first day of trekking, and the people remember this place with the name of the hotel, which eventually became the name of the whole settlement. This settlement has multiple lodges now.
Overnight at Lama Hotel.
Day 05: Trek to Langtang Village (3430m)
After early breakfast, we will start our trek towards Langtang village. After walking for about an hour, you will reach Riverside, where you can find two teahouses with a lodge. If you do not want to stay at the Lama Hotel, Riverside is the next option. The way forward from Riverside will be a little challenging as you ascend to the top of the hill, pass through the rhododendron forest, and reach Ghodatabela. We could have lunch here if you feel hungry, but if you want to continue, we can.
From this Ghodatabela, your trail ahead will differ from your overall journey. You will now walk-through yak pasturelands to witness the yak grazing. Also, the whole trail is now surrounded by giant rocky hills. You may find a few Tamang settlements filled with Buddhist prayer flags and chortens before you reach Langtang Village, a Tamang settlement that was sadly and badly affected by the 2015 Earthquake. It is now located slightly ahead of the devastating site. You will find multiple lodges here and view the farmlands, which grow foods like potatoes, barley, etc.
Overnight at Langtang Village.
Day 06: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m)
Today, we will trek towards our final destination, Kyanjin Gompa. On the way, we will visit Nepal’s giant mani and stone walls with prayers written on them. You’ll cross many tiny streams with wooden bridges and over several mountains. Today’s journey is short, and a few steps ascending are not that challenging, but you should be aware that as you are trekking upwards to 3,870m, you might catch trouble on the way.
After a few hours of ascending and descending, you will reach Kyanjin Gompa, tucked away in the lap of Langtang Lirung and equipped with incredible facilities and amenities, including the Swiss bakery.
Overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 07: Hike to Tserko Ri or Kyanjin Ri and get back to Ghodatabela
Hiking to Tserko Ri (4984m) is challenging, and if you plan on going there, we should wake up early and have breakfast. Before sunrise, we should march towards Tserko Ri. But if you choose to go to Kyanjin Ri (Ri 1 and Ri 2), we can do this hike on our regular morning schedule. The hike to Kyanjin Ri is less challenging than Terko Ri, but whichever route you choose, you will be treated to a 360-degree view of frozen lakes, expansive valleys, and snow-capped mountains.
After spending some time on the top of the Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri, capturing moments and enjoying the spectacular view, we head back to our hotel. We will have our lunch and return to Ghodatabela.
Overnight at Ghodatabela.
Day 08: Trek back to Syabrubesi
We will have a decent breakfast at Ghodatabela and trek back to Syabrubesi. This returning journey passes through verdant woods and will let you capture one last look at the abundant biodiversity of the Langtang area.
Overnight at Syabrubesi.
Day 09: Syabrubesi to Kathmandu
Today, we drive back to Kathmandu. Once we reach Kathmandu, we will drive you to your hotel. You can rest over the remainder of the day or do some souvenir-buying. You can also stroll around the famous attractions of Kathmandu, such as Basantapur, Durbarmarg, or Thamel.
Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 10: Departure
This is your final day in Nepal! After a decent breakfast, we will ensure you enter the Tribhuvan International Airport a few hours before the flight to your onward destination. If there is enough time, you can do last-minute shopping or eat something delicious you love the most here in Nepal.
